Youth Work Permits

Do You Need A Work Permit?

If you are a student in one of the Woonsocket public schools and will be working in Rhode Island, Youth Work Permits can now be completed at your student’s school during school hours. This should make the process much easier and time efficient. Please follow the steps below to ensure it is completed properly.

If you attend private/charter school, will be working in Massachusetts, or are in need of a Work Permit during vacation weeks, please see below for procedures and necessary forms to obtain your permit.

  • WED Students: Bring the completed form signed by both your parent and your supervisor to your school secretary. You will be issued a Work Permit to return to your supervisor for your file. If you change jobs, you will need to repeat this process. Each permit is only valid for a single job site or until you turn 18.
  • Non-WED Students, Minors Seeking MA Work Permits, or Minors Seeking Permit When Schools are Closed:  Bring the completed form signed by both your parent and your supervisor, along with proof of Date of Birth (Birth Certificate, Driver’s License/Permit, Passport, etc.) to the McFee Building at 108 High Street. You will be issued a Work Permit to return to your supervisor for your file. If you change jobs, you will need to repeat this process. Each permit is only valid for a single job site or until you turn 18.

If you have questions regarding this process, please reach out to your Middle/High School Secretary or Guidance Department, or Human Resources at 401-767-4600.
