Dear High school students, staff and families,
I hope that you have enjoyed a summer full of everything you love to do. With the first day of school quickly approaching, I wanted to send you greetings and information about what to expect this coming year. This summer, our team was hard at work preparing to welcome almost 1700 students through our doors. As a school community, we will continue to build upon the foundation that was laid last year, with a strong focus that every Novan is respectful, safe and responsible.
To start, I would like to introduce the new members of our team, as we have been very busy this summer interviewing and hiring some excellent educators! I am thrilled to announce that Mrs. Karen Barbosa has accepted the role of Assistant Principal of Academic Affairs on our team, formerly serving as the Assistant Principal at the Career Center. I am also excited to announce that Mrs. Kate Clancy has joined our team as the Assistant Principal of Climate and Culture. Mrs. Clancy will focus on supporting our students throughout the day as well as work with our students and families within alternative programming and placement opportunities. I will continue to search for additional administrators to join our team to support our work at the Career Center, and hope to announce some new additions soon.
In the coming months, we will implement and reinforce some policies and procedures designed to ensure the safety and success of everyone at Woonsocket High School. Academically, behaviorally, socially and emotionally, we will continue to infuse high expectations in all we do, using a solutions-based mindset focused on student achievement and preparation for life, post-graduation. To help us achieve this goal, we will provide opportunities for families to aid us in growing our learning community outside of our school walls. There will be a strong focus on building accountability in our actions and work, and promoting safe, responsible and respectful citizens both inside and outside of school.
Accomplishing the above will require hard work. However, the elements that make Woonsocket such a great place to work, live, and learn will help us to successfully face any challenges that appear. In addition, our students will be supported by the excellent team we have in place and, in my role as leader of the high school, I specifically look forward to contributing to our growth by continuing to improve our communication. Weekly staff and family updates will be sent on Sunday evenings; we will continue to use the school messenger system, our school website, and social media to communicate with families. Teachers and staff will continue to utilize Google Classroom as a key communication and educational tool. Students are expected to check their email and Google classroom daily.
Please be on the lookout over the next couple of days for additional back-to-school information. I will also be communicating with students when schedules are finalized and the process of how to request schedule changes.
We cannot wait to welcome back our staff on Monday, August 28, the class of 2027 on Wednesday, August 30, and look forward to welcoming back all of our returning students on Thursday, August 31.
Sincerely,
Jeffrey Guiot
Principal
